FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is filler made of?

Most filler is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance found in the skin and many other parts of the body. It is responsible for maintaining hydration and volume within the skin and deeper structures of the face. HA filler, because it is naturally occurring, can easily be dissolved should complications arise. This is not a permanent procedure.

What can filler do?

Filler can restore volume to areas of the face that lose volume with the aging process. It can also add volume to areas that area lacking such as lips, jaw, tear troughs, and cheeks. Hyaluronic acid filler can smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We like to think of it as a sculpting tool to create a beautiful, natural look.

Who can inject filler?

Registered nurses and physician assistants, with proper training can perform these procedures under the direction of a physician. Nurse practitioners, with proper training, are able to inject without the supervision of a physician in Kentucky. This requires years of practice and continuing education. All DMD’s, DDS’s, MD’s, and DO’s are able to inject with appropriate continuing education.
Kristina Feder, MSN, FNP-BC is a board certified nurse practitioner at Samara Facial Aesthetics with extensive training in injectable aesthetics and 22 years of clinical experience.

When will I see results?

Neurotoxin such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all forms of botulinum toxin. The amount of time they take to be active in the muscle (for you to see results) varies. Most people see results within 1-2 weeks. The duration of results also varies but can be up to 6 months.
Filler results are immediate. There is some swelling and bruising that occurs but it is usually minimal. The results are visible immediately, however, it takes 2 weeks to allow swelling to resolve and to see final results.

Are there any side effects to filler?

Possible side effects, risks, and benefits of filler and neurotoxin will be discussed with the provider at the time of the visit. Every procedure has risks and benefits. The complication rate is very low. All of your questions and concerns will be answered and addressed prior to being injected.
